While this is a good idea for life in general, keeping your house clean is a crucial part of preventing mold. This means that you should be regularly vacuuming and cleaning your floors. In particular, pay attention to areas of your house that often carry moisture, such a bathrooms.
Keep the House Dehumidified
We know that the wintertime can be quite dry outside, often leading to people trying to make up for that dryness at home. Humidifiers offer an obvious solution to that problem. However, be cautious with just how humid you want your household to be, as it can cause mold growth.
Getting Rid of Moisture
Speaking of humidity, daily activities like cooking and taking a shower can cause a serious amount of moisture to linger in the air. If you find yourself taking a long, hot shower this winter, as many people do, make sure to turn on your fan. Likewise with cooking on the stove, make sure your vents are on. This gets rid of the moisture in the air as fast as possible and is an easy way to prevent mold growth in the winter.
Keep an Eye on Your Basement
Probably the most common place for mold growth to start, the basement should be an area you are paying close attention to. Due to its proximity to the soil, basements tend to cultivate mold more than anywhere else. Once again, in relation to humidity, make sure your basement is well protected against mold build up. One great way actively combat mold in the basement is to use a dehumidifier. This will manage the level of humidity stored in the basement walls and floors.
