What does mold look like?

Depending on the type of mold you have, it can vary in appearance. Usually, mold looks either fuzzy or slimy and usually grows in patches. It can appear in a wide variety of colors, including blue, green, yellow, black, white, gray, and brown. Because there are so many different types of mold, it’s always best to have a professional mold specialist do an inspection and test for the specific strain.

What is black mold?

Black mold is a specific type of mold (Stachybotrys), and is caused by moisture, often from water damage, flooding, leaks, or something similar. It also produces toxins, which of course you don’t want to keep breathing in. While most people dread finding black mold, our technicians are experts at removing and remediating black mold.

What should I do if I think I have mold?

If you have black mold in your house, you want to address it immediately. It is the most toxic type of mold, and you don’t want to attempt to remove it yourself, as it often grows in places you can’t see.
Have a mold specialist come out to your house for an inspection. All of our contractors are IICRC certified to perform a mold test (either a strip test or air quality test) in order to identify the mold. We will provide you with a best price guarantee estimate for removing and remediating the mold within 48 hours. If you choose to move forward with ProCare, we’ll then remove and remediate the mold, backed by our 10 year warranty.

How do I know if mold is toxic?

All mold has the potential to be toxic, since everyone reacts differently to different types of mold, which means that if you have mold growing in your house it needs to be removed. The good news is that most mold removal situations are very straightforward. Our technicians rely on facts and give truthful answers, estimates, and timelines. We don’t engage in fear-mongering tactics and won’t try to scare you for an upsell.

Do you clean vents or air ducts?

Yes, we can clean out dust and sanitize vents/air ducts if needed

What is bread mold?

When you do your own mold testing or air quality testing, you’ll often get told you have “bread mold”. This is a common term for mold that happens as a result of water damage. We can safely remove this mold and inspect the area to make sure the water damage wasn’t the result of a leak. We can also fix the water damaged area.

What is a visual mold inspection?

During a visual mold inspection, we will come to your home and inspect all requested areas. This can be a full house inspection, just one room, or certain areas--it’s up to you! We look for water damage and mold growth. Then, we’ll create an estimate based on the mold or water damage and evaluate how to fix it.

How do I know if it’s black mold?

There are a few key ways to determine if you have black mold growing in your home. Usually black mold:

  • Is black in color.
  • Grows in dark areas with little or no ventilation. You’ll often see it on walls and ceilings, in drywall, or in wood framing.
  • Grows in a wet area. This could mean moisture from a leak, humidity, or water damage.

If you’re uncertain about what type of mold is in your house, contact professionals for an inspection or to get a mold test.

How can you tell if there’s mold behind a wall when you can’t see it?

We use a moisture meter to see more “behind the scenes” that we can’t see with our eyes. Sometimes there is moisture behind a wall that we can’t physically see or feel, but it can cause problems. The moisture meter will be able to detect this.

Do you do asbestos testing?

No, we do not currently offer asbestos testing.

What mold tests do you offer and what is the process?

We offer several types of mold tests, and will perform the one best suited for your situation. We offer strip tests and air tests to test for mold presence. Each one has a different process, which you can read about here.

Here links to mold tests page with more detailed information on each test type.

Do you perform indoor air quality testing?

Yes, we perform indoor air quality testing to detect mold presence. Our air quality tests...

Do you do environmental testing?

No, we do not offer general environmental testing. However, we are able to test specifically for mold in the environment. If you are worried about mold, we highly suggest doing a specific mold test instead of a general environmental test. The cost for an environmental hygienist is extremely high, and often the mold is the culprit anyway.

What is the difference between environmental testing and mold testing?

Environmental hygienists test for a wide variety of factors (including type of odor in your home), while mold tests specifically for mold presence.

What is mold removal?

Mold removal is the process of removing mold from your home. It is a catch-all term for mold remediation and mold abatement, so it means mold will be removed and the location will be cleaned properly and professionally to prevent future growth. While mold removal with ProCare Restoration means we’ll address the source of the mold as well, this is not true of all companies. Some will simply remove the mold, but without fixing the cause the mold will likely grow back in the same spot.

What is mold remediation?

Mold remediation is a method that properly handles mold. Through mold remediation, we fully clean and sanitize the location to prevent future mold growth.

Can I clean mold with bleach?

This is a common misconception. You cannot remove mold by using bleach. If you try to, you could actually make your mold problem worse. Bleach can cause mold to release mycotoxins in the air, which can spread and start a new mold colony at another location in your home. So although visually bleach might seem to remove your mold, it will not actually remove it. You’re always best calling a professional who has the right tools to mitigate the mold.

What is mold abatement?

Mold abatement is the official term for preventing mold growth in the future. When we perform mold abatement services, we find the source of the mold and address it. This could mean fixing a leak, performing water mitigation, or filling a hole to prevent humidity build up. Once we find and remove the source of the mold, we’ll remove the mold itself, and you can rest knowing we’ve fixed the cause, not just the problem.

What is the difference between mold remediation, mold removal, and mold abatement?

All three of these terms are used to describe the same process: removing mold from your home and properly sanitizing the area to prevent future mold growth.

If you see mold has been growing in one spot for a while, it is time to call for mold remediation. Mold often grows inside walls and spaces before it makes itself visible, so it is best to get professionals to remediate the problem and prevent it going forward.

What chemicals do you use?

The chemicals we use depend on the specific situation. However, we follow the best practices as outlined by the IICRC. We use only the chemicals recommended by the most up to date standards of the IICRC.

Some companies use ozone or do green-washing, but these chemicals aren’t truly effective. If you have mold on or behind drywall, these chemicals will only attack the mold on the side of the drywall they can reach. They aren’t effective for mold remediation on the back of the drywall. This is why we follow IICRC recommendations and always replace drywall when needed.
