Why to Beware of Store-Bought Mold Removal Products

At ProCare restoration we hear a lot of interesting things from our customers. The one thing that plagues us the most though, is that people are still using store-bought mold removal products and are surprised when they don’t work.

Our technicians know from experience (and extensive mold remediation training) that these products don’t work, which is why mold removal specialists exist. From special sprays to mold resistant paint to plain old bleach, just about any product you can buy off the shelf to fight mold isn’t going to do you any good and could actually make matters worse.

In the IICRC certification process, our technicians are trained in how to remove mold safely using special machines and chemicals that can only be purchased with a permit because they are only to be used by professionals.

So why do so many people insist on buying a mold removal spray at Home Depot instead of calling a specialist? Our suspicion is that it’s one of two things: embarrassment or a desire to save money.

Unfortunately, store-bought mold removal products will not solve either of these issues. Worse still, the teams that are marketing these products are shamefully dishonest.

They promise full remediation in a can of paint or a special spray, when they know that promise is false. They’ll do anything to get your money, including sacrificing their own integrity.

Every time a new product like this comes out, we see the same marketing ploys. They say it’s the ”most effective mold remover out there” or it’s “99.999% effective.” Don’t believe any of it. They’re in the business to make money, not to save you money or to protect your health.

Furthermore, if you disrupt the mold by scrubbing or spraying it with these products, you can actually release more mold spores into the air. And those spores can actually make you sick. In addition, this can make the mold spread to other areas of your home. So using these products actually puts you in a worse position than you were in the first place.

The fact of the matter is that mold is a fungus and fungus is notoriously difficult to eliminate. If you’ve ever had a fungal infection, you know that it takes weeks of antifungal medicine to get rid of it. So why would mold be any different?

It takes powerful cleaning products and intricate machinery to truly remediate mold. The good news is that we carry both of those things here at ProCare Restoration and we have licensed technicians with the skills to use them.

So please, don’t let the fate of your home and your health rest in the hands of a store-bought mold removal product. Schedule a mold inspection with ProCare Restoration today and get your mold remediated the right way.
